In a measure aimed at boosting efforts to combat the Corona Pandemic, a Public Health Blockchain Consortium (PHBC) has recently announced the development of a new blockchain platform. TheVirusBlockchain.com will help to track COVID-19 free communities.
Better Lives Globally
The PHBC consortium brings together health authorities, universities, health care providers and innovators. They aim at collecting, safely storing, and analyzing anonymous health data on the blockchain. Their objective is the eradication of diseases and bettering lives globally. Besides tracking COVID-19 free communities, the project will also study other high-risk viruses, bacteria and fungal infections.
At the moment, the project is yet to attract partners. However, it has sent out invitations for those willing to join. Moreover, it intends to present its findings at a conference planned for next year.
Supposedly, VirusBlockchain.com will use certificates from security agencies and government institutions that monitor cases, to automatically identify communities deemed free of infectious diseases.
Additionally, the platform will integrate real-time information from virus surveillance providers with artificial intelligence backed GIS systems. It will then store the information obtained on a blockchain.
Maintenance of Safe Zones
According to Ayon Hazra, CEO of Qlikchain and a PHBC administrator, communities and workplaces can retain their safe zone status by limiting access to anonymously identified persons and allowing movements to and from other safe zones only.
He poses that, contrary to traditional infectious disease surveillance that stresses on infected persons, the blockchain system studies movements of uninfected persons. Again the system restricts the return of uninfected persons who’ve passed through infected areas.
The system requires the quarantining of people that have entered an infected area before accepting them into the safe zone. This approach mirrors many nations’ insistence that their citizens self-isolate after contacting potentially infected persons.
