Popular decentralized network, BitTorrent, is at the forefront of massive exposure to more than three billion people worldwide, thanks to a recent partnership between the world’s largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer Huawei and blockchain project TRON.
Huawei Lists BitTorrent
According to a Monday announcement, over 3 billion Huawei users across 170 countries can now access BitTorrent, one of TRON’s portfolio projects, directly from their mobile devices.
The partnership saw Huawei adding four applications – BitTorrent, BitTorrent Pro, uTorrent, and uTorrent Pro – to its smartphones through the AppGallery.
BitTorrent desktop users who own any of Huawei’s latest devices, including the Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro, P40, P40 Pro, or P40 Plus, now have direct access to the world’s largest and most popular decentralized blockchain network and file-sharing services.
This allows users to interact with the BitTorrent network while stripping away its underlying complexity.
Mass Exposure For BitTorrent and TRON
Following Samsung’s move to add support for native dApps within its Blockchain Keystore earlier this year, the TRON ecosystem is already embedded into hundreds of millions of devices. But the Huawei deal is even more significant, for it brings the benefits of BitTorrent to a global, mobile audience.
TRON added BitTorrent to its portfolio in 2018 and integrated the project into the TRON Network. The company later released a native currency, the BitTorrent token (BTT), to power the entire BitTorrent X ecosystem.
Justin Sun, TRON’s founder and CEO of BitTorrent, sees the development as another milestone for BTT and TRON to be listed by one of the world’s largest manufacturers of Android devices.
In collaboration with BitTorrent Asia, an independent community team, TRON is currently working on a protocol to bridge Huawei apps to the TRON Network through BTT.
Located in Shenzhen, Guangdong, Huawei is a Chinese electronics powerhouse and the second-largest smartphone manufacturer after Samsung.
While Apple has been cagey about allowing particular crypto apps to feature in its App Store, Android has welcomed virtually all comers. As a result, manufacturers of Android devices, Huawei included, have had their devices favored by crypto users.
